Roland Kirk

Roland Kirk adapted Sam Most's technique of singing into his flute and took it to the next level. Kirk was able to talk through his flute while playing. This produced a buzzing flute with words as recorded in "Ain't no Sunshine." Kirk also recorded on many different flutes including the nose flute and a bamboo flute. Kirk was also strange in that he could play on three different hybrid saxophones at the same time. Kirk was able to modify the key mechanisms of his saxophones so that he could play in harmony with all three. He also was the first jazz flutist to use key clicks. Key clicks are just a loud click made by pressing a key down hard.
